Virtuosi of Houston Young Artists Chamber Orchestra  held a preview party at Tiffany’s to celebrate their upcoming gala concert and dinner to be held Saturday, May 7th at the Royal Sonesta Hotel.  This year’s gala, “Legends of the Future: Celebrating 20 years of Memories” is being chaired by Karina and Carlos Barbieri and Zarine and Meherwan Boyce. Distinguished  honorees for the evening are Margaret Alkek Williams and Monzer Hourani. This year’s gala will be extra special in that both the music and cuisine will be a selection of the most popular from previous galas!!

Tiffany’s gave a lovely party including music, cocktails and plenty of caviar!

The Virtuosi of Houston is a Premier Young Artists Chamber Orchestra. Its goal is the education and development of young talented musicians into true professionals, who would be sought after by the premier Conservatories and who would pursue a musical career as performers, educators and advocates of classical music. Virtuosi provides the opportunity for every talented youth in the Houston area, regardless of race, religion, or income to receive the best education in the field of classical music so that they are competitive in their objective to be music professionals.

Talented kids from all walks of life, and throughout the greater Houston area, gather twice a week to rehearse and learn together. This youth orchestra boasts 100% college attendance record and over 95% pursue music as a profession. They have a dress code, and when one of the girls couldn’t afford the clothing, another girl in the group went straight to her own closet and showed up with clothing to share. I think these kids are learning a lot more than music being members of Virtuosi, they are learning about giving, friendship, dedication, hard work, other cultures and about life.

As a chamber orchestra, with only 50-60 musicians, Virtuosi of Houston makes it possible for each musician to experience increased confidence, leadership, responsibility and performance skills to move their own musical ability to a higher level. The conductors at Virtuosi, Andrzej Grabiec and Franz Anton Krager go out of their way to not just teach the music, but tell every story behind every composition.
