Location: Downtown Tunnel System

Downtown’s “underground” is a system of tunnels 20 feet below Houston’s downtown streets and more than 6 miles long.  Having started out years ago as a tunnel between two downtown movie theaters, today it includes restaurants, coffee shops, stores, offices, newsstands, florists and more.  It connects 95 city blocks and allows for those who wish to avoid the hot or rainy Houston weather and walk around in air-conditioned comfort.

I used to work downtown many years ago and used the tunnel system all the time. Walking around Houston’s downtown streets in work clothes during the summer can leave a person melting!
