Chris Bell wants to be our next Mayor

February 16, 2015 by Beth Muecke Leave a Comment

Location: Office of Chris Bell

Chris Bell wants to be Houston’s next mayor. My followers know that I never discuss politics on my website or Facebook page, but Chris is an old friend. We became friends at the University of Texas and he was a groomsman in my wedding to my former hubby.  In between laughs about old times and current times, I asked him a few questions starting with “I have a fashion blog, so this is going to be a fluffy interview lol” . Chris has a lovely wife, Alison, and two teenage sons.

YOUR PREVIOUS JOBS: I have been a TV reporter, radio broadcaster, Houston city councilman, US Representative and lawyer.

WHAT MADE YOU DECIDE TO RUN AGAIN FOR MAYOR:  I love public service. There is an open seat for mayor and I decided a while ago that if another opportunity presented itself that excited me I would go for it. I am intrigued by all the new ideas and technology that cities are now using to help their citizens.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE THING ABOUT HOUSTON: The openness of this city. It doesn’t matter where you came from, you can make your mark in Houston. I also believe that Houston utilizes its diversity as a strength. People of just about every ethnicity/culture/background live and work together successfully here. You don’t find that in a lot of other cities.

WHAT ARE SAY 3 THINGS YOU WANT TO ACCOMPLISH AS MAYOR: I want to take full advantage of the latest technology, giving citizens solutions from the ground up working with City Hall. I want to maintain the streets, lights, etc. I want to focus on re-purposing unused assets such as turning an empty lot into a park or using empty library spaces for Pre-K program classrooms.

WHAT IS THE BEST PIECE OF ADVICE YOU’VE EVER BEEN GIVEN: To recognize how big life can be and try not to leave anything on the table.

NAME OF FEW OF YOUR FAVE RESTAURANTS: El Meson, La Colombe d’Or, Underbelly

WHAT’S YOUR PERSONAL CLOTHING STYLE: Colorful. I used to only dress in gray and blue.  But then I got bored and started shopping on Ebay, Gap, Banana Republic and Paul Fredrick looking for colorful socks, jackets, shirts and pocket squares. I read somewhere that a suit without a pocket square was a “naked suit “. lol. I still wear the blues and grays, but try to add a little something.

HOW DO YOU SPEND YOUR DOWN TIME: I read, cook, exercise, sit on my patio listening to music and have a good martini or glass of wine.

ANY IRRATIONAL FEARS: I used to have a strong fear of being in a car wreck because I’ve had a couple of close calls. I’m better about it now though.

TELL US SOMETHING HUMOROUS ABOUT YOURSELF: Those who knew me in college find it humorous that I’m now a Sunday school teacher. One girl attended my class and I said ” your uncle used to be my roommate in college” . She never came back! I’m sure it was just a coincidence hahaha.
