About the Location: Burger and fries please! Ray Kroc opened his first McDonald’s in 1955 in Des Plaines, Illinois. I’ve been there because it’s on the way to O’Hare airport. The first McDonald’s drive-thru was created in 1975 near an Arizona military base to serve soldiers who weren’t permitted to get out of their cars wearing fatigues. There are now over 34,000 restaurants worldwide and over 260 in Houston and surrounding areas.
