Location: Sloan/Hall

Does anyone miss Blanco’s honky tonk bar and grill? I think the answer is yes!! This famed  River Oaks bar, restaurant and music venue seemed transplanted from another time and place, with its low ceilings, hardwood dance floor and unelevated bandstand, Blanco’s was much closer to a traditional Texas honky-tonk than any other venue in the Houston area. Well, Heart of Fashion, founder, Vivian Wise, and Sloan/Hall will be hosting an “Ode to Blanco’s” style party on Wednesday, December 14th and this is a hoe-down you don’t want to miss! Look for kegged beer, lots of Armando’s bites, Titanium tequila, live music and a honky-tonk good time! So put on your boots and scoot over!

Blanco’s was opened in 1982 by the late Barry E. DeBakey, son of famed surgeon Dr. Michael DeBakey. When Barry DeBakey died in 2007, he left the establishment to his son, Barry Clark DeBakey, and Karin Barnes. Blanco’s closed in late 2013, when it was purchased by nearby St. John’s School and was later removed from the property in 2016.

Blanco’s was a one-of-a-kind venue located right in the heart of River Oaks,  cultivating a large crowd of regulars over the years, who came to love the bar as much for its home-cooked lunches and greasy burgers as for the live music at night. Since it opened, Blanco’s hosted hundreds of acts from all over the country-music spectrum, but mostly local and regional artists A short list of the acts that appeared on Blanco’s stage includes Chris Wall, Cooder Graw, Hollisters, Jim Lauderdale, Jesse Dayton, Jason Allen, Derailers, Cornell Hurd Band, and locals like Kenefick (who plays Friday night), Amber Digby, Snit’s Dog & Pony Show and Mike Stinson.

Speaking of Mike Stinson, this renowned musician and his band will be playing at the event!  Mike is a grammy-winning songwriter who wrote several songs for Dwight Yoakum including The Late Great Golden State. He is also an accomplished musician, in demand to play all over the country.

Proceeds from the evening will be donated to the Texas Legacy Foundation, which has designated The Orange Show as it’s charity recipient for event.
