As a result of on-going media attention given to child sexual abuse across the nation and here in Houston, we are calling on our community to recognize the importance of prevention and education in order to keep all children safe from abuse. Child sexual abuse is a silent epidemic that reaches all demographics and we must continue to shed light on this unthinkable crime and stand up for our children. The statistics are alarming. One in four girls and one in six boys will be sexually abused before they turn 18. Studies show that children who experience this trauma and do not receive assistance are at a much higher risk for depression, self-injury, substance abuse, prostitution and criminal delinquency. It is crucial that young victims of sexual abuse receive the proper intervention and services provided free of charge by The CAC. The vision of The CAC is a safer Houston community in which we heal children who are sexually abused and reduce the number of children who are victims of abuse through treatment and the enhancement of prevention strategies.
